Dunagan family history continued.....

Ezekiel's son was Isaaih Dunagan, born in Hall County GA on September 25, 1808. He was my great great grandfather. He married Susannah Eberhardt on January 17, 1828. His ancestors may have lived on Donigal Bay Ireland. He died after 1870 and is buried in Dunagan Methodist Chapel in Hall County GA. Isaaih had 9 children with Susannah and one of those was a son named Benjamin Black Dunagan, born April 26, 1839. Benjamin Black Dunagan had two wives. His first wife was Martha Thompson and his second wife was Demaris Mann whom he married on January 8, 1876. Benjamin was my great grandfather and Demaris was my great grandmother. I have a copy of her obituary. She died September 21, 1913 in South Atlanta. She was born in Jackson County GA. Her last home with Benjamin was in East Point GA. Benjamin died first and left her with 12 children. She was buried at the old family burying ground near Ball Ground GA. Her funeral took place at Nellie Chapel Methodist Church. You have probably noticed that all the Dunagans were Methodist as was my mother before she married my Baptist father. The daughter of Benjamin and Demaris was my grandmother Othalia Susannah Dunagan, born January 11, 1880 in Hall County GA. She married my grandfather, Thomas Marion Drummond of Canton GA. She died in 1958 and is buried in Westview Cemetery in West Atlanta. Othalia Susannah Dunagan Drummond was my grandmother and my mother's mother. Her nick name was Soli from the phrase "God bless her little soul." She also was a Methodist. I barely remember her but she lived with us in Pine Lake GA in the back bedroom when I was 5 years old. My Mom said she married her father when she was only 16 years old. Together she and Thomas had 9 children who were my uncles and aunts. They were: Clifton who died at age 2, Ben ( James Benjamin), Roy ( Roy King), Olin ( Olin Mythias), Clarence, Helen Lorraine, Herbert Daniel, Mildred Estelle ( My Mother), and Amelia Othalia( after her mother.) They were a farm family and Othalia was a home maker. Her hobby was quilting. I believe she died in that back bedroom in 1958 at age 78. She is buried with her husband Thomas in Westview Cemetery in West Atlanta and we used to visit their graves with my mother and father on holidays. Of course it was her daughter Mildred Estelle Drummond who married my father Ira Bailey Melton and had me as their fourth child. My siblings are: Ira Baily Melton, Jr ( deceased), Donna Sue Benson ( deceased), Timothy LaRue, and Kathleen Ruth Burton. Thank you for reading these two posts and the story of my Maternal Family Tree through my mother's mother Othalia Susannah Dunagan and her ancestors who came to America from Ireland. I hope one day to visit Ireland, Scottland, and England to learn more of my family's history. My next post will be about my Father's mother, Floy Kate Dodgen and how the Dodgens came from England to GA.
