Dodgen Family History Conclusion

I am going to refer to Floy Kate Dodgen Melton as Bonky from here out. She was the only grandparent I ever really knew. She was a homemaker. I believe her father was a farmer. She sang, danced, played the piano and organ. As a teen they lived on Lucille Avenue in the West End of Atlanta. After marriage she lived with Kate Manning. Later in life they lived in Center Hill. Her husband Ira Herbert died in 1962. At the time they were living in Pine Lake Georgia where I lived and grew up until I left for college at age 18. We called her husband our grandfather Ira Herbert "PoP." I was only 9 years old when he died and do not remember much about it other than he seemed to have a gentle spirit. I do not think I attended his funeral. After his death Bonky came to live with us in Pine Lake. She lived quite independently until around age 85 and it was not until she was 93 that she entered an assisted living facility. I remember how much my father struggled with that decision to place her there. Bonky was involved in Church and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed her evening coffee and loved to go fishing with my mother at the mountain house. She was quite the trout fisher. She was particular about her appearance and she was always well dressed for any occassion. She was the oldest Melton and lived to be 96. She was sweet and quite witty. She was the only person who could get away with bossing my father! I could write a book about my Bonky, but I will not. She died on Christmas Eve 1994 and is buried next to her husband Ira Herbert in the Decatur Melton Plots cemetery. Of course Bonky's son was my father Ira Baily Melton Sr. I am the fourth child of Ira Baily and Mildred Drummond. Thanks for reading ALL of my family history!!
