Beyond the Couch
One of the most joyous things I do when not doing therapy is helping others learn how to do it. This is called supervision. In therapy supervision we help pastors, pastoral counselors, student counselors, and mental health professionals improve their ability in conducting counseling/psychotherapy. Again, I personally take the same psychodynamic approach to supervision that I take toward therapy. The difference is that supervision is an educational endeavor. The supervisor is a mentor and teacher--not your therapist. So if you are in a helping profession that includes counseling others with their personal problems, then you might consider additional supervision at some point in your career. I am open to conversing with you about supervision as well. So, teaching, consulting and supervising-- three things we therapists do when not sitting in our chairs all day long!
