Freud Museum Vienna Austria

 This pic from the Freud Museum in Vienna is of Freud's actual waiting room. Not that different really from psychotherapists' waiting rooms today. Maybe a bit more warm and comfortably furnished. As I stood in his waiting room I imagined what it must have been like to be one of his first patients anticipating the session to come when he opened the door and motioned me to come in. It must have been a daunting experience to enter that consulting room and lay down on that couch and talk with him. But after many times of doing so week after week and month after month the patient begins to experience a unique relationship that would be unlike any she had known before. This therapeutic relationship is the prerequisite for mental healing and wholeness.
