Melton DNA and Family Tree Research: My European Descendants
In this post I am sharing my Melton DNA research that shows our roots in Africa where all homosapiens began, and then how that DNA traveled from Africa to Europe. I will then share our actual ancestral family tree in Europe starting around 1000 AD up to 1620 AD. These Meltons of London England were those that then traveled to America. ( See my earlier post for what happened to them after they arrived in the USA.) All we modern humans (homosapiens) came from Africa. My descendants and yours were part of that small group of perhaps no more than 250 that crossed over the most narrow southern part of the Red Sea into Saudi Arabia around 55,000 BC. This was when we all came "Out of Africa." If you would like to know what we looked like just google the San People of Africa and you will see. They are the oldest people group in Africa and we all descended from them. They stayed there while we left to populate the world. Once this small band of modern humans left Africa they first spread to Saudi Arabia and then around the world. My DNA test results show 1% of my Melton DNA in the area North of Saudi Arabia. My Melton ancestors next appear in Italy and Greece (2%.) Then there is a big jump in DNA percentage in Western Europe of 25%. Finally my Melton DNA shows up in Great Britain (23%) and Ireland (28%.) I was surprised to learn that 18% of my DNA ancestry was Scandanavian. The Meltons of Europe were among the Vikings of 840 AD in the North British Isles. The original Melton landed there under King Strigud the Stout. Our English Baronal Family, the Meltons of Aston in York County England come next. The Meltons of England grew from relative obscurity to know wealth through their becoming leaders of the Episcopal Church of England. My family tree research, plus the work of others I have discovered online, says that the first Melton line in England we know of is Siwate de Meltona born 1000-1250 AD. His son was Adam Melton born 1150-1250 in England, (These early ancestors need further verification if anyone in the Melton clan is interested in doing the research.) Adam's son was John de Melton born 1273 in Suffolk England and married to Myrtle. This Melton we know of for sure!! John's son was Henry de Melton born 1300 and died 1340. His son was Sir William de Melton of Aston married to Lady Joan. He was born July 4, 1369 and died 1362. His son was Sir William Melton of Aston born 1377 and was married to Margaret Clifford who died in 1455 in Aston, Gloucestershire, England. His son was also John Melton born in 1398 in Melton Hall Derbyshire and was married to Elizabeth Hilton who died in 1455 at Melton Hall. His second wife was Cicely Mainwaring. His son was also John Melton whose wife was Margery Fizhugh. They were married in 1454. John's son was Richard Melton born also in England in 1485. The next two generations of Meltons in England we do not know about. They remain a mystery for future generations to solve. The next known Melton in the line was also Richard Melton born in England in 1595. His son was William Melton born in 1620 in England. It was this William and family who traveled to America to New Kent County VA. His son William Michael Melton Jr. was born in New Kent County VA in 1647. See my earler post of how William Jr. and his descendants established themselves in VA before migrating South to North Carolina and finally to Georgia where I grew up.
