Plain Words from an Old Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist

So today marks the beginning of my new blog called, "Plain Words from an Old Psychoanalytic  Psychotherapist." Why this title? Well, it allows me a lot of room to talk about anything and everything I have learned in 30+ years as a psychotherapist.

My professional journey began in theology and pastoral ministry. I then further specialized  in pastoral psychotherapy. From there I became an analytically oriented Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC),  and studied more psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.  Over the years I further explored  evolutionary biology,  paleoanthropology,  theology/philosophy, psychoanalysis of religion, genealogy, history,  science and most recently--neuropsychoanalysis/psychotherapy. And these have been just my major interests! I will write here about all of this professional experience.

But, I will also write here about my family, our family trees, some of our life  stories, and my own personal and professional journey. Today, training in the further specialty of neuropsychoanalysis/psychotherapy, I recall the analyst Robert Langs writing that being a therapist makes you interested in your patients' personal histories. It also makes you interested in your own! This will become clear as you read along.

So, I guess I am saying I will be writing here about anything and everything I want  to share---whatever strikes me at the moment! So if one subject does not interest you, just keep scrolling. Hopefully you will find one that does.

Also, everything I write about in this Blog will be written for popular (non specialist) audiences. That means I am not going to use technical language on any regular basis, and if I do, I will make sure I explain things in plain English. Thus the second meaning of my Blog name. I hope  to write simply and clearly so that you will not only learn from, but also enjoy reading my posts.

In my  years as a therapist, I have been fortunate to have  seen over 1100 patients in psychotherapy. I have further been able to supervise 16 student therapists. I am also now a senior citizen. So my age plus my experience have taught me that it is time to share some of this clinical and otherwise wisdom with others. So sit back, relax, and enjoy my Blog, "Plain Words from an Old Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist"! ( Please ask me questions!! Make comments!! Let me know who you are !! I want to know my readers. Thank you).
